Lucy Poynton- Founder and Director

I have been passionate about using Dance as a tool to aid mental wellbeing for as long as I can remember. As a young dancer growing up, I realised that dance has way more meaning than just becoming a performer. I studied A level and Degree Level Dance and specialised in Community and Education, soon realising the impact Dance can have on the whole wellbeing of a person, and people as part of a group.

Over the past ten years, I have become highly experienced in working with pupils across the full range of the SEND spectrum including CLD, ASC, PMLD, SEBD and MLD. I have explored many different ways to engage these pupils through movement and dance activities, and extremely passionate about creating opportunities where EVERYONE can achieve and celebrate their success.

I am extremely proud of where shadow is now, and very much look forward to spreading the word and creating more opportunities for society to carry on enjoying the benefits of Dance.

Jade Lear- Dance Practitioner

I started Dance at the age of 2 learning the different styles (Tap, Ballet, Modern and Pointe) and went on to study Dance further in school at GCSE, A-level, University and have just recently qualified with QTS as a Secondary dance teacher in July 2021.  My teaching experience to date has been varied and exciting. I have had opportunities to teach within SEND settings- with my teacher training school being a Secondary SEND school. I have had experience in working with children across the spectrum and with a diverse range of needs. More recently, I have been cover class teacher in a  primary schools, and also PE coordinator and dance teacher. I am passionate about how dance allows everyone to be included, how it boosts their wellbeing and their opportunities to succeed.

Shadow is an inspiring company that I am extremely excited to be a part of. I thrive to deliver diverse and engaging lessons through the curriculum and also  through our inclusive dance school outside of school hours. Dance is a significant part of life, a way of communicating and should be offered to all. I want to bring happiness and solidness to those that I teach through the art of dance and I believe that this can be done by all at Shadow dance company.
